Dental Emergencies
If your child has a dental emergency, don’t panic! It can be overwhelming to have a crying child bleeding copiously from his or her mouth. Here are some simple guidelines:
- Use a clean wet washcloth, sterile gauze or whatever else is available to you to help stop the bleeding by holding it to the area with firm pressure. Clean the area gently and assess the situation.
- If you notice broken or loose teeth, or a tooth has been knocked out, call our office immediately. Be assured that if you have an emergency we will make every effort to accommodate you into our schedule at the very first opportunity.
- If your child is eating and/or drinking comfortably and otherwise well past the initial discomfort, it may not be necessary to come in immediately but your dentist will want to evaluate the tooth. Trauma to teeth affects not just the tooth but the surrounding structures which can include the bone and socket surrounding the tooth, and even developing permanent teeth close by.
- If your child is not in any pain, but you have a concern regarding their teeth or any other part of their mouth, please feel free to call us during normal office hours.
